Afanc
Gwynedd, Wales
A monstrous creature of the deep lakes of Wales — part crocodile, part demon — the Afanc devoured any who entered its waters. Llyn Barfog in the Dyfi valley is one of its most enduring haunting grounds. In some versions it was dragged from the water by King Arthur's horse Llamrei and cast into a loch too deep and cold for it ever to resurface.
