Chanctonbury Ring
West Sussex
An Iron Age hillfort ringed with beech trees on the South Downs. Walk seven times around it at midnight and the Devil will appear with a bowl of soup. Roman offerings were found buried within. The trees were blown down in 1987 — and something changed.
