Headless Horseman of the Staffordshire Moors
Staffordshire
Between the moorland villages of Onecote and Leek, a headless figure on horseback is said to ride at dusk. Witnesses report the horse as vast and the rider's severed neck level with the treetops. Local tradition holds it to be the spirit of a Cavalier slain during the Civil War and denied burial in consecrated ground.
