A shape-shifting spirit of Irish folklore — most often a dark horse with burning eyes that offers rides to unwary travellers before galloping at terrifying speed through bogs and rivers until dawn, when it vanishes and leaves its rider far from home and shaking. It can also take the form of a goat, rabbit, or goblin.
