Tom Hickathrift

Tom Hickathrift is a folk hero of the Fenlands, famed for extraordinary strength. In the best-known tale, he killed an ogre terrorising the Smeeth near Wisbech using a cart wheel and axle as an improvised shield and club. His story appears in early chapbooks and was collected by Joseph Jacobs.
